No child is allowed leave school grounds without a written note from parents.
1. ASSEMBLY
The bells ring at 9.20a.m. Children go to their respective lines and line up. Each teacher will bring his or her pupils to their class.
2. BREAK TIMES
(a) 11.00-11.10a.m.
(b) 1.00-1.30p.m.
Schoolyard will be supervised at all times. Currently the supervision roster allows for 3 teachers on supervision duty and 2 Special Needs assistants who will cater for the needs of their particular pupils. Their teacher will escort each class to the toilets. Children will walk on the left hand side of the corridor at all times. When being released out to the yard there will be one teacher at the top of the stairway supervising children's descent and another at the bottom of the stairway to ensure that the pupils proceed to the yard in an orderly fashion.
Supervision within the school
Children line up when on the yard after the Buzzer sounds. Each class has its own line, clearly marked on the yard. Each line of children is collected and brought to class by their respective teachers. Children go through school in an orderly fashion on the left hand side of corridors at all times. When children are being released from class teachers keep watch from classroom doors at all times, there is also one teacher at the top and bottom of stairs. The deputy Principal will monitor pupils leaving the building. Children are supervised leaving school grounds. This is currently facilitated by the Principal and deputy Principal.
During Break Times.
At the beginning of the school year a roster for supervision is devised by a member of the ISM team (currently Ms. C. Guilfoyle.) Children are supervised by three teachers on the yard during morning and afternoon breaks. There are two yards, one junior yard to accommodate 2nd & 3rd class and one senior yard which accommodates 4th, 5th and 6thclasses.
On occasion it may be necessary that children will stay indoors at break times due to inclement weather. Children may play board games, watch a DVD, or read/draw during these times. Children will be fully supervised during these times.
It is current school policy that school begins at 9.20 each day and that no responsibility can be taken for children who are left on school grounds before that time. However, should an incident or injury occur, the school would always respond with care and due diligence.
Teachers are now paid for Supervision and also have an opt -out option from supervision if they so wish. However this does not negate the duty of care that every teacher carries when in school situations.
Dismissal & Movement Within The School
1. The school opens at 9.20a.m with a 10-minute break in the morning at 11a.m. and a half hour break at 12.30p.m. for lunch. Children are dismissed from school at 3.00p.m. Children will not be released from school before 3p.m. without written permission from Parents.
2. Children will line up in their lines in an orderly manner at assembly times and must be accompanied by their teachers before any future activity.
3. Children will move quietly through the school at all times ascending and descending stairways in single file and this procedure to be followed also on corridors.
4. Children will have supervised access to Toilet facilities at all Break Times and as needs must.
5. It may be necessary on wet days for the children to stay within their classrooms .The supervision roster will cater for this to ensure that the children are adequately supervised. It is envisaged that children may read, draw, or play some board games during this time.
Class Routines.
At the beginning of each school year, class routines are organised, and a copy of each Teacher's timetable is stored in a central file in the office. A copy of each teacher's 'cúntais míosiúil' will also be kept in this file .These time tables reflect subject routines of the various classes and also include discretionary time as advised by the new curriculum of 1999.They may also allow for a spreading of expertise within the school and complement the timetable for those teachers who act in a resource capacity.
Timetables are also observed by adults other than Teachers who participate in school activities, e.g. soccer, hurling or rugby coaches who operate in the school from time to time.
Some beginning of year considerations for Teachers are:
(1) Teachers should ensure that they have all relevant information regarding children in their class
(2) Teachers should ensure that all School Rolls are filled up with Pupils Names Addresses and Registration Number; Black pen should be used when filling in Rolls.
(3) Teachers should meet in regard to resource, language support, and learning support pupils, re caseload and timetabling issues.
(4) (4)Teachers should ensure that all pupils have a homework journal. This can be used as a formal written communication between home and School.
(5) (5) In Regard to Pupils Accessing Toilets, teachers should keep in mind that pupils should be supervised if they are in groups- as per School Policy Health and Safety.
Routines - Re: Absence of Teachers & Supervision For Sick & EPV Days.
Teachers who are absent will contact the Principal or Chairperson as soon as possible for them to do so. If their absence is long term a substitute teacher will be employed.
However, there are and will be times when this is not possible and classes may have to be split and sent to other classrooms. In such situations pupils will work with prescribed work. In the case of EPV days at least a weeks notice should be given to the Principal, Deputy Principal or Chairperson and permission must be granted by the Board of Management. If possible EPV days are and should be used through the course of the school year but preferably not in the last two weeks of last school term. Adequate and suitable activity should be filed for pupils by class Teachers for EPV days.
Routines - Re: Organisation of School Tours/Excursions (See Also Health & Safety Document)
The following should be borne in mind when organising excursions/tours:
Extra Curricular Activity & Outside Agencies.
This school engages in many activities outside of school hours.
These include, from time to time:
1. Choirs.
2. Concerts.
3. Football and Hurling (G.A.A.).
4. Athletics.
5. Volleyball.
6. Basketball.
7. Art classes.
8. Soccer Blitzes.
9. Quizzes.
10. ICT courses.
11. Teaching of Musical Instruments, Guitar Keyboard.
12. Swimming/aquatics
13. Several activities undertaken under SCP e.g. Horse riding, hiking, fishing etc..
These activities are merely a sample and are engaged in by children of this school and directed by both parents and teachers. The benefits for children are many and many lifelong skills are developed as a result of their involvement in extracurricular activities, and strong links between home and school often result from such activity. In these informal settings relationships between children parents and Teachers are often enhanced, as also are learning experiences. It is the view of this school that learning is for life and that all school activities be viewed in this context: In the school at the moment there is also an after school club which is funded by School Completion Programme funds and run by teachers of this school, the aim being to foster positive links between school, home and child. Consequently it is hoped that children at risk of not completing the school cycle will learn life-skills and develop a positive attitude toward learning and school.

- The Educational value of the tour

- Supervision issues-time and distance to be covered-adequate supervision on buses.
- Parental involvement
- Price of tour and equality of access for all.
- Prior consultation with Principal before tour is organised.
- Adequate planning and notice for Parents is necessary.
- Consent forms must be returned.
