We need to care for our future, or there will be no future!
Biodiversity is cool, so let's look after it at home and in school! .... and so many more

November
Heritage in schools
On Thursday 27th November, Michael Jacob from 'Heritage in Schools' came to our school. He came to tell us about feeding the birds in Winter and how to make bird feeders. We went outside. We dug up the soil to find earth worms and we found out that they have soil in their bodies.
Birds put their beaks into the soil and the worms come up as they hear vibrations and they think that it is rain. We also found out that birds break the shell off snails by hitting it off a rock. Insects also live in the crevices in the trees. Seeds are scattered by the wind and birds eat these seeds.
Back in the classroom we made bird feeders. We spread some peanut butter on cones and rolled them in the birdseed. Then we put some lard on them. Later we hung them up for the birds to eat.

Bug Hotel
See our new bug hotel ...It is a cosy habitat for insects to shelter in over the Winter. In the Summer it can be a nesting place. It is built from planks of wood layered up on bricks and pallets. We used lots of recycled and natural materials like moss, dry leaves, logs, twigs, pinecones, bark etc. Our bug hotel is standing in a sheltered spot behind the school garden and near to the trees food source. Jack gave the 6th class great help building this ...Thanks Jack! Make sure your class gets outside to have a look!
